TMA Meeting Exposes Ironies of Tobacco
The 95th annual meeting of the Tobacco Merchants Association took place May 23-25, 2010 in Williamsburg, Virginia - a stone’s throw from the Jamestown settlement where the first English colonists acquired the tobacco habit from the local native Americans. There were 220 attendees, mostly from the US but a delegation arrived from Korea and several came from Switzerland. Over the two days, two themes dominated the event: the emerging role of the FDA in their newly appointed involvement in tobacco affairs and the growing importance of smokeless tobacco products.
