The 2012 FTA Tobacco Section Annual meeting will be held 26-29 August at the Hilton Hotel in Hartford, Connecticut. This event is the annual opportunity for US state tax administrators to meet and discuss matters relating to the collection of tobacco tax revenues.

The general sessions of the conference program, which starts on Monday 27 August, include updates on the PACT (Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking) Act, the FDA, the MSA and the new Canadian tax stamp. One session is devoted to tax stamps, including heat-applied versus pressure-sensitive stamps, and revenue issues with RYO (roll-your- own) machinery.

According to the FTA, the meeting provides a forum for states to share their best practices and to hear about the latest and greatest in improved processes, compliance innovations, and more. ‘Ideas, networking, trends to embrace, pitfalls to avoid - all are included in the conference fee’ it says.

The fee is $385 for government employees and $485 for industry representatives. More information can be found at www.taxadmin.org.
